Dr. Sue Furman presents a comprehensive view of how the touch of massage affects the body, mind and spirit of the dog in twelve lively 60-90 minute online Power Point classes or modules. This is a self-paced online massage program entitled HTT Canine Massage Theory & Techniques that totals 200 certificate hours. HTT Canine Massage Theory & Techniques is composed of two courses:
- Canine Massage and the Body, Mind and Spirit (Modules 1-6) 6 modules, or classes, deliver dynamic PowerPoint presentations that clearly teach how the organ systems of the dog's body perceive, respond to, and heal with, massage.
- Canine Massage Techniques: Petting with a Purpose (Modules 7-12) 6 modules, or classes, present videos of Swedish massage strokes and explain how stroke interacts with sensory receptors to encourage relaxation and healing of the dog's body, mind and spirit.
You may complete the 12 modules two different ways (click here for more info). Canine anatomy lectures (modules 1-6) explain and emphasize how sensory receptors located throughout the body allow the dog to perceive the type and quality of touch (massage) and how the body responds. Massage technique presentations (modules 7-12) contain a video demonstration and explanation of each massage stroke. Students have six months to complete the 12-module program at their own pace.
- The 12 modules are online and are like chapters in a book.
- Students may skip back and forth between modules.
- View each module as often as desired for the 6 months.
- Modules are available 24/7.
- The test for each module may be taken only once but you may proceed to another module before taking the test.
- Tests do not have to be taken in order
- Module content is available for review even after the module test is complete.
- Sue recommends taking the modules in sequence to grasp the anatomy essential to understanding what really happens when you put your hands on the dog's body.
- Sue knows students who are anxious to learn massage techniques may jump back and forth between anatomy and technique modules and that is fine.
- Sue is available by email throughout the 6 month program to answer questions.
